Mike Burns, Partner
Mike began his career as an executive director of a community health center, followed by 15 years as an executive director and primary consultant for a nonprofit management assistance organization. During that time he was also an associate professor of management at the Antioch-New England Graduate Schools of Organization and Management and Environmental Studies.
In 1994, Mike joined the firm. His practice focuses on strategic planning, nonprofit governance, organizational development, and helping nonprofits assess their readiness for mergers and partnerships. His skills include crisis management, conflict resolution, and market research and analysis. Mike has a great deal of experience with facilitating meetings and retreats. He frequently posts to his blog, Nonprofit Board Crisis, where he highlights nonprofit internal issues. In addition to his work at BWB, Mike serves as a board member of the Alliance for Nonprofit Management. The Alliance is an association of individuals and organizations devoted to improving the management and governance capacity of nonprofits.
Mike graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Marquette University and completed a master’s degree in nonprofit management with a focus on governance at Lesley College. He also holds a graduate certificate in nonprofit marketing management from the University of Hartford.

Kevin McQueen, Partner
Kevin brings twenty years of experience in the financial services industry and a deep commitment to helping organizations maximize their social impact. He helps social ventures, nonprofits, businesses, foundations and public sector agencies create, build consensus and implement a broad range of business and social strategies. He has worked with BWB as an associate since 1996 and joined the firm full-time in 2001.
In 1996, Kevin started New Columbia Capital Advisors, providing management consulting, organizational development, and strategic planning assistance to public and private economic development organizations and financial intermediaries. The New York native began his career structuring and negotiating loans to middle-market companies for Citigroup and National Bank USA. He later joined the National Cooperative Bank Development Corporation, where he originated senior and subordinated financing for middle-market companies, nonprofit organizations and CDFIs. Kevin also served as Program Director of the National Congress for Community Economic Development, the national trade association for organizations in the community development field.
Kevin has chaired the boards of several community-based organizations, and is currently a director of the Social Enterprise Alliance and Partners for the Common Good. In addition, he is a member of the community advisory board for two community development real estate investment funds.
Kevin graduated from Brown University with honors.

John Weiser, Partner
John specializes in helping organizations use business strategies to achieve social goals. One of his strengths as a consultant is his ability to place complex issues into clear conceptual frameworks. He is an experienced facilitator in both traditional and participative organizational environments. His ability to move from grassroots organizations to corporate boardrooms complements his skills in shaping cross-sector partnerships to the benefit of all involved.
After two years with the Boston Consulting Group, John co-founded the firm in 1984 to pursue his vision of business as a force for social change. Since then he has helped businesses, nonprofits, foundations and public sector agencies create, build consensus for, and implement a broad range of partnership strategies.
John has written several papers on the business case for corporate involvement. In 2000, John co-authored “Conversations with Disbelievers,” which examines the quantitative evidence showing when and how Corporate Community Involvement creates bottom-line business benefits. John is also the lead author of the award-winning book, “Untapped: Creating Value in Underserved Markets”.
He graduated magna cum laude in mathematics from Harvard University, and holds a masters degree in public and private management from the Yale School of Organization and Management.
